ai-mechanic
Mechanic shops with repair and tuning with a live preview, job shops with a stash and customer bills, car washes and a repair kit.
ai-mechanic repairs and tunes vehicles. Shops can be open to everyone or run by a job (a mechanic job with its own stash, whose staff bill customers). It also runs car washes and the repair kit item.
What it does in the game
- Opening a shop. Drive into a shop's area and, from the driver seat, press the interact key at Open .... A menu opens with Repair, Performance, Body parts, Wheels, Paint and Lights, tint and plate (only what the shop offers).
- Tuning with a preview. Moving through a list shows each part on the car before you pay. Each purchase is one part: the price shows next to it, Installed marks what the car has. Closing a list puts back the last bought look.
- Saved for good. On an owned vehicle, bought tuning is saved in ai-vehicles: ai-mechanic is the only script that changes a car's stored tuning.
- Repair. Fixes engine and body. The price follows the damage (price per damage point times up to 2000 points).
- Who pays. At a public shop the driver pays from the panel's accounts. At a job shop, only on-duty members of that job can work, and the job's
bankaccount pays, except for a car the member's own character owns, which the member pays. - Job shop stash. A job shop can have a shared stash (Open the shop stash) for its members.
- Customer bills. On-duty members of a job that runs a job shop see Bill customer in the radial menu. It bills the nearest player with an amount and a reason; the job's account gets the money when the customer pays the bill.
- Car wash. Drive into a car wash and press the interact key at Wash the vehicle ($...). A progress bar runs in the car; the price is taken and the dirt removed at the end.
- Repair kit. Use the repair kit item on foot next to a vehicle (within 4 m). After a progress bar, the engine comes back up to the panel's value ("The engine runs again, get it to a mechanic"). The kit is used up only if you are still within 5 m.
Installation
Installed by the AI Core recipe. By hand: ensure ai-mechanic after ai-core (and after ai-vehicles so tuning is saved). Add a repairkit item to your inventory if it has none (or set another item in the panel).
Default places: five shops (LS Customs Burton, a job shop of the mechanic job with price multiplier 0.8; LS Customs Harmony and Airport; Benny's Motorworks with multiplier 1.2; Beeker's Garage in Paleto with repairs only) and five car washes (Strawberry, Davis, Paleto, Sandy Shores, Little Seoul).
